Hi, I'm Todd.

 

Here’s the short version of the story of how I got here – encouraging you to cultivate the emotional resilience needed to fulfill your highest potential.  

I founded Prevail Wellness Academy, in part, because of a realization I had several years ago about how my unprocessed emotions were affecting my ability to be as healthy and effective as I was striving to be. 

I’ve always thought of myself as a pretty easygoing person. Early in my work and family life, most people probably agreed — I just didn’t let stress get to me, or at least that’s how it seemed.

As my career started to really take off and my family grew, the daily obstacles became more complex and difficult to manage. I endured struggles that would have caused some people to blow up in anger or break down crying — but not me. Instead, I did my best to just ignore the chronic and acute stress and the toll they were taking on my life. 

It was around that time that I started developing some incredibly painful sores in my mouth — the kind that hurt so much that it was hard to eat — a constant distraction. When they persisted, I went to the doctor, and what I learned surprised me (even though it seems obvious to me now): Those awful sores were a stress response

Here’s the thing: I was never better at dealing with life’s pressures than anyone else — I was just temporarily good at pushing them down, burying them deep inside. Until finally, my body couldn’t take it anymore and started ringing the alarm bells, demanding help. 

I’m going to bet you’ve had a similar kind of experience, even if your alarm bells played a slightly different tune than mine. If you’re human, you’re dealing with stress and challenging emotions, and they’re going to affect you in one way or another. 

There are myriad ways in which our bodies and minds can react to this kind of emotional wear and tear. From gastrointestinal issues and cancer to a wide array of mental health issues — many illnesses are triggered or aggravated by our inability to deal with the difficult emotions and other stresses we’ve been taught to just ignore. 

Realizing the painfully real impact of stress was both a wake-up call and a turning point for me. I started to pay more attention, and I sought out help and strategies for processing emotions as they arose, so they weren’t just waiting to surface as another much worse stressor later. 

Since then, I’ve been on a journey of self-discovery. I’ve dedicated years to researching, taking courses, and working with wise and generous mentors. With time, effort, and support, I’ve built skills in several areas of my life, including processing unpleasant emotions and stress.

This kind of multifaceted personal growth allowed me to create a path forward in my life that would align my time, talents, and energy with my purpose of helping other people in tangible, authentic ways.  

Eventually, my journey led me to founding Prevail Wellness Academy.
